He has a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from St. Bonaventure University in Allegheny, NY, and Master's degree, cum laude, from the University of New Haven in Connecticut.

Writing Experience

  • Newspaper Writing:

Charlie's first writing job was as a general assignment newspaper reporter. He learned to write in the classic newspaper style of Who, What, Where, When and Why. He also learned to write fast while under the ever-present deadline of a daily paper.

  • Writing in the Public Sector:

For more than 20 years he worked for a Council of Governments in Connecticut and for several regional agencies in Maine. In those jobs he learned how to write project proposals, grant applications, transportation plans and the like.

  • Writing in the Private Sector:

During a second 20-year career in marketing and business development for engineering and construction companies, he did lots of writing and editing of technical reports, project profiles, proposals, cover letters, brochures, newsletters and news releases.

  • Writing in the Sports World:

Writing and editing for Maine Golf magazine was the most fun of all! He wrote feature articles on many of Maine's best-known golfers as well as descriptions of some of the state's great new courses and traditional older courses.
